Smart Transformation Labs as virtual future businesses for the Central Germany region (TRANSFORM)

The TRANSFORM project aims to ensure the smooth transformation of existing operating systems into a future-oriented operation. The focus is on the close integration of economic and ecological perspectives, the regionally relevant issue of innovative irrigation strategies and solutions, the further development of plant protection using digital technologies, the logistical optimization of processes, and the promotion of biodiversity and the associated increase in the effectiveness of ecosystem services. Smart Transformation Labs (STL) at the Magdeburg and Bernburg sites serve to transfer knowledge and bring digital technologies in agriculture to life. The optimized digital infrastructure for agricultural businesses is presented at these sites through the use of virtual and augmented reality technology demonstrators. For the on-site demonstration of an optimized digital infrastructure, technology and presentation modules for existing vehicles are being implemented to enable knowledge transfer in the farms and provide support for the digital transformation. The connection of the mobile components using modern mobile communications technologies links the various locations both in terms of technical capacities and within the consulting process.

Project priorities

The transformation of agriculture is to be supported by digital tools, the establishment of Smart Transformation Labs in central Germany, and decision-making aids for various current issues in crop production.

Further project details

  • From September 2 to 5, several scientists from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences participated in an EU-wide congress on “Perspectives on the landscape in a rapidly changing world.” We organized a session on “Quantifying the effects of policy instruments on ecological renaturation.” Two presentations were given during this session.

    1. On the effectiveness of EU nature conservation policy, using the example of the farmland bird index, and
    2. A decision-making tool that is being developed as part of the TRANSFORM project.

    Other presentations at HS Anhalt dealt with

    1. The multifunctionality of forest landscapes, which can be measured using a local approach to recording and validating ecosystem services, and
    2. The possibility of quantifying the interactions between agriculture and ecosystems and their impact on agroecological resilience using a Bayesian network.

    The conference gave us the opportunity to exchange ideas with other scientists and gain insights into the latest research.
