Research areas

  • Increasing biodiversity in agricultural landscapes: Long-term experiments on the diversification and establishment of species-rich field margins; ecological effects of perennial wildflower strips; development of strategies for integrating biodiversity measures into the operational processes of agricultural businesses through smart farming techniques
  • Ecological renaturation: Development of best practice methods for the renaturation of open land habitats
  • Adaptation to climate change: Establishment and management of biodiversity vineyards; long-term experiments on the renaturation of species-rich grassland
  • Colonization and development of post-mining landscapes: Basic research on spontaneous and controlled succession processes; development and implementation of measures for near-natural slope greening; long-term trials in post-mining landscapes
  • Knowledge transfer: Development of measures to improve knowledge transfer between science and practice; ecological renaturation in vocational training and continuing education for green professions
